Alta Restaurant & Wine Bar

Just a block over from Main St. is Alta Restaurant & Wine Bar, an establishment offering an elevated dining experience and exceptional Mediterranean cuisine. For nearly 15 years, Alta has been serving the Lenox community, becoming a staple of the local food scene.
Alta is a lovely place to grab a bite. The exterior of the restaurant is inviting. On the inside, great service, warm lighting, and white tablecloths help create a romantic and cozy atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to go if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion or have a nice date.
Both the lunch and dinner menus emphasize local ingredients, as well as organic ingredients, to create delicious, fresh dishes. Alta also offers an extensive wine list, which features many delicious wines from around the world, as well as classic cocktails and a full bar menu.
What to Get at Alta Restaurant: For an appetizer, you might enjoy the goat cheese mousse with beets, figs, and a savory shortbread. The cider & cinnamon pork cheeks and roasted chicken Statler “paella” make for amazing entrees. Alta does not offer much for children, but vegans will be delighted by the vegan stuffed tomato dish, which comes with plant-based meat, black rice, and tomato water.
Bistro Zinc

One block up from Alta Restaurant & Wine Bar, visitors can find an upscale french restaurant, Bistro Zinc, in the middle of Lenox’s historic downtown. Berkshire County has a number of excellent restaurants, but this might be one of the best. This place makes a delightful first impression, as it is set inside a lovely blue house with large white windows and New England charm.
Once you enter Bistro Zinc, you’ll find that the interior is surprisingly large, as well as wonderfully sleek and stylish. The dining room features modern decor and an atmosphere that makes it perfect for any occasion, from business lunches to a meal with old friends. It is also notable for its zinc bar and curated art displays. You’ll feel like you’re in Paris!
The menu is based on French fine dining, however, it does not limit itself to one cuisine. Visitors will find dishes like jambalaya, tempura, and even great burgers decorate the Bistro Zinc menu.
What to get at Bistro Zinc: For lunch, try the French onion soup gratinee or the Zinc croque-madame, two restaurant favorites. The duck confit rolls and rock shrimp tempura are great starters for dinner and should be followed with boeuf bourguignon or swordfish milanese.
Vegetarians can enjoy the bucatini with sun-dried tomato pesto. Finish the meal with delicious profiteroles!

Just off of the Veterans Memorial Highway, near beautiful Kennedy Park, is the Lenox Commons. This shopping center has a lot to offer, including the wonderful On a Roll Cafe. It’s a casual eatery for either breakfast or lunch, with a friendly staff and great options for outdoor dining when the weather is nice in the warmer months, but indoor seating so you can come any time of year.
On A Roll Cafe offers an exciting menu that pulls from many different cuisines and culinary inspirations. You’ll find Mediterranean, Latin, French, and traditional New England dishes all make an appearance on this menu. Each one is approached with a fresh take and is made entirely from scratch with tasty, high-quality ingredients.
What to get at On a Roll Cafe: For a sweet start to the day, try the toasted coconut and pecan French toast or lemon ricotta pancakes. The corned beef hash & eggs are also a great choice for a more savory breakfast. For lunch, you can’t beat the Maine crab cake sandwich or the frittata of the day, or the portobello-lentil burger.
There is no menu for kids, but there are burgers, quesadillas, and grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu that can likely be modified for picky eaters.
Firefly Gastropub

Not far from Bistro Zinc, on Church Street, is Firefly Gastropub, one of Lenox’s best restaurants for nearly 20 years. This fabulous establishment serves New American cuisine and provides a top-notch atmosphere, with live music and a cool aesthetic that ensures you’ll have a great time.
The inside of Firefly Gastropub feels luxurious without being gaudy. Warm, golden lighting and a beautiful full bar in the center make it almost feel as though you have stepped into a speakeasy. But while the drinks are delicious and the vibe is inviting, it’s really the delicious food that makes this a worthy stop.
What to get at Firefly Gastropub: The smoked brisket ravioli, lobster mac and cheese, and grilled elk chop are all great choices. If you want something lighter, try the ahi tuna tartare, PEI mussels, or crispy brussel sprouts. The roasted quinoa veggie bowl is a hit with plant-based eaters.
Trattoria Il Vesuvio

Rustic and classic, Trattoria Il Vesuvio is a traditional Italian restaurant in the heart of the Berkshires. You won’t find much information on their website or online in general about this charming restaurant that is set inside of an old barn. However, that doesn’t mean it should be skipped, you’ll just have to make a dinner reservation and come experience it yourself.
If the cozy and homey interior makes you feel like you have been whisked away to the countryside, the authentic food will have you convinced you’re really in Italy. It’s not an overly large menu, but it has all of the Italian staples that you might crave, and each dish is delightfully well-crafted.
What to get at Trattoria Il Vesuvio: For an appetizer, try the calamari tritti or arancini. The fra diavolo is a delicious entree that pairs mussels and clams with linguini, sure to be a hit with seafood lovers.
The saltimbocca chicken comes stuffed with prosciutto and provolone and is another wonderful choice, along with the fabulous eggplant parmigiana. For dessert, you must get the Italian ice cream tartufo!
Haven Cafe

Right on Main Street, you’ll find Haven Cafe and Bakery, a truly ideal spot to grab breakfast when you’re in Lenox. Their menu items are elevated, but they have a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes it a great place for brunch or a casual bite to eat.
If you don’t have time to sit down for a delicious meal, you can always grab a croissant or a pastry to go. However, it’s worth stopping in for the full experience, if you can. That’s because, in addition to providing healthy and great food, Haven Cafe is committed to offering exceptional service.
What to get at Haven Cafe: For a hearty start to the day, the smoked salmon scramble or the breakfast banh mi are ideal. If you’d like a sweet breakfast dish, try the croissant French toast. There’s even a plant-based breakfast burrito. Haven’s croque-monsieur makes a great choice for lunch, as does the grilled polenta topped with marinara and roasted mushrooms.
Cafe Boulud at Blantyre

Blantyre is a picturesque country manor house that primarily offers a luxury hotel experience. It offers a perfect escape for those looking to enjoy the beautiful serenity of the Berkshires, a few hours and a world away from Boston or New York. However, one of the best parts of Blantyre is Cafe Boulud, easily one of the best restaurants in Lenox, Mass.
Chef Ethan Koebel creates a menu that focuses on fresh-caught New England seafood and nearby farmers’ produce. He takes inspiration from the ingredients that can be found locally and uses them to create a world-class menu that can’t be beaten.
Plant-based eaters and families should keep in mind that the menu is neither vegetarian- nor kid-friendly.
What to get at Cafe Boulud: The menu is a three-course prix fixe, it is a good idea to let seafood guide your choices. The heirloom tomato gazpacho with house-smoked bluefish or grilled Spanish octopus are both great starters. Follow up with the shrimp risotto, or the Crescent Farms duck breast if you don’t want seafood. The cheesecake mousse is an amazing end to an incredible meal.
